I suppose opening the shop at 6 am (waking at 5) is enough of an excuse to sit on the computer messing around for at least a solid half hour while on the clock. What a terrible employee.

KDHX got my morning started right, playing wire, the replacements, and iggy and the stooges.
I will continue to rock out here for a while before I have to drive to St. Charles for the funeral. When I told my boss I couldn't work my regular shift my reasoning for really needing off was "This funeral is really only going to happen once for this person."

The copyrights are coming! May 9th. May 7th is American Cheeseburger, and I'm still trying to talk Jacob into letting KKM play. hah. Those dudes would love it. Sack Lunch recorded with Ben at The Anchor this past weekend. Listened to the recordings, which are good and Sack Lunch is starting to sound like a legitimate band (and I mean this in an impressed, proud way.)

The squirrels have stolen my biggest zucchini plant, so i have to start all over. One of my pepper plants is also gone. Peas, cabbage, spinach, and broccoli are doing okay. And my sunflowers, zinnias, and foxglove are all coming up. Becca and I were commenting on how the yard is really coming together. Bees, a raised bed, rows of flower plantings, and some planters filled along with the fire pit I dug. I am hoping to harvest enough from my meager garden to eat some, share some, and can some.

Local Harvest has been holding classes on what is essentially urban homesteading. They are free to employees which is even better. Classes like making butter, making yogurt, composting, and growing herbs. This is funny because I;ve been reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and she is a very back to tradition woman where connecting to your food chain is involved.
One thing I did not like in her book was a section written by her daughter Camille about nutrition. It was not a direct attack on vegetarianism or veganism, but she very clearly thinks that meat, in moderation is best. Her argument towards a healthier lifestyle was that vegans and vegetarians lack nutrients in their diets that come from animal sources, therefore they must take manufactured supplements to remain healthy. Now moderation is always important, but animals do not have to be a part of the equation. A solid mixture of grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein sources can keep a florivore healthy without supplements. I personally have been tested for deficiencies and have none, without taking a multivitamin. The other thing is that most people's food choices are a lot worse even with moderate meat intake than a vegan's would be by taking a man-made vitamin.
Her book has increased my dis-like, and discomfort with soy based products though. I am already leery of eating a lot of processed soy goods, and now I will be even more conscious of all the different manufactured foods that contain commodity grown soybeans and product.

Next month is My, Ken, and Thimble Cake's one year anniversary of being in love. I am going to bake them a cat pie.

to correct the post from last time we were at Delux. Thanks The Shadow.

I saw Jason, Anne, and Doug's new band Medical Tourists. Really good.
They and Maximum Effort played Apop for record store day.

Becca painted the hives, and yesterday the bees moved in. It was really exciting.

Oh wow

what a week.
Who is this woman who has moved into my skin? Its a good thing all in all. Being easy going is way more fun than being a tight ass.

Sunday was a benefit at off broadway for Johnny Vegas. Clara convinced me to go out with her and how could I resist? Jacob, Luc, Ryan, and I headed to her house to get started then went to off broadway. Patty Bo Bo and Valentine were there. A lot of dancing, some ass pinching. All around hilarious antics.

The mass hysteri show must have been before that, but it was incredibly fun.

Thursday was the FBC's Aprilween. It poured rain all day but I was not about to let that stop me. Clara and I had worked hard all Wednesday on out coordinating costumes as the birds and the bees. So Becca and I rode to ryans where everyone met up. It wasn't raining and didn't rain until we were in Maplewood and about 1/4 mile from our destination. I stayed at the galaxy way too late considering I had to work at 7 am. Mr. Little Danzig the great was spinnin records and that was fun. We danced until close and surprisingly just as I was about to head back to benton park from maplewood it began raining. All the way home. And did I mention that I had a cough at the beginning of the night? So now I am sick. boo.

Easter was amazing fun. Everyone acted ridiculous and Emma was dressed as a zombie and we went over to hear donnie and larry and connie jam and play some bluegrass and folk music. As an adult I still got an easter "basket" in the form of a giant terra cotta planter and some more flower seeds and a soaker hose. too nice.

Burrito loco date tonight!

I am reading Barabra Kingsolver's Animal Vegetable Miracle, which is amazing. More wide eyed truths about the poison we call food. Ah, to recall a time when I had ignorance and enjoyed it.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Oh wow, how can jammin out to journey on the radio put me in such a good mood? or maybe it's been the hang out sessions that make me feel a little less like punching the world...

tonight is Mass Hysteri at the Wedge with maximum effort, glass teeth, and joe's new band. The name escapes me.

it snowed and then melted, rained and then stopped. Now it's just wonderful. I have a hair appointment at my sister's new salon tomorrow , which is exciting for her!

FBC is having aprilween on the 9th. amazing. I think everyone has decided to go as coyotes. haha

Patty Bo Bo and I saw Gomorrah. It was really intensely dark and depressing.
why do people laugh at scenes that are so startlingly tragic in small ways? it's not funny, you're just uncomfortable with reality.
Europe is constantly romanticized... people forget that they create evil too.

i love making mix tapes

horseradish!

Clara made some rad pickled horseradish root at work.
All my vegan key lime and coconut cream cheese cupcakes sold out today!

I guess I have to think up a new idea now.

I built my frame for my raised garden bed and will be getting free soil and compost this weekend.

Patty Bo Bo got into Temple. I am so proud of him!!

It's really spring!

I thought I saw a butterfly the other day, and then convinced myself I must have been mistaken. But today I saw another butterfly floating across my backyard, and a fat honey bee circled my cats.
I realized I could probably sit and watch my cats interact with one another forever. they really are beautiful creatures.

Condominium was really good but the show was super terrible. Jessica and I talked to Kim for a while, and she's real neat. Nineteen year old girls should not own houses though.

I made wheat tortillas today and garlic hummus. Cooked up some tempe with some of Zing's all sauce.

we will start doing yoga in tower grove next week, which is really exciting.

KC was awesome. I got silly.
Sad that I missed the rap show, but i think I'm gonna try to have king kong mag. play at my one year anniversary of being single party! I've never celebrated any kinda anniversary and this one is gonna be fun.

condominium is playing tonight and its the grand opening of Ashley's store, binge and purge.

I have had my first adventure in sourdough bread making. The starter took 9 days to ferment. The sponge had to sit for 1 day and then I mixed in the flour and kneaded it. Let it rise two more hours and re-kneaded it. Then formed loaves and let it rise another hour. baked it for 45 minutes and viola!

It contains cornmeal, chickpea flour, wheat flour, oats, sunflower seeds, and unbleached white flour. is dense and sour and delicious.
I am very proud of this.

Jake, jacob, and I went on a south broadway adventure today. Our aim was the crystal wizard but we got there a 1/2 hour too soon. so we wandered down broadway, stopping at the food mart, talked to some folks, then found a garage sale where I purchased a record of an italian man with an accordian and a fantastic bread making book. I have yet to listen to the record.
went to the wizard and bought a poster for Luc's birthday.

I might have a violin teacher soon. Bridget's man friend Brian said he will try to muster up the confidence to teach.

KC tomorrow, I am bummed to be missing the rap show but teenage bottlerocket is amazing

Monday, March 16, 2009

why am I vegan? because I care about this world, not as it is, so much as how it should be. How it can be.

I made vegan chocolate orange cupcakes with orange buttercream frosting and candied orange slices. This was for work.

spring? spring...

Was winter worth being around for? sure. I learned a few things I guess. I learned to relax a little more. I made fanny rap songs. I learned more about wild birds and mammals. I saw a lot of punk bands.

I have been in a funk. A funk all winter but especially since Wednesday. I have sculpted my rage into something like an art form over the past few months. Its brilliant really.
Last night I was determined to be uber social but instead was an uber bitch. I was mean to everyone except Becca. I belittled Mark, knocked a poster out of Kevin's hand, and copped an attitude with Kel. These poor boys.

Thinking about telling people I've converted to Catholicism so i can lay off the treats but every time I think of jacob's rap " gave up dick for lent, brother told me it was heaven sent" haha

gonna go home and listen to blondie and dance. maybe make a pizza. yum

ice cream night at my house ruled. mom, bethany, and emma came along with mark, t-mo, jake, toot toot, ryan, and jacob. we played apples to apples and got some sugar rushes.

drunk hippie came into work, complaining about a bad day.. something about his vw bus. got mad when we wouldn't serve him alcohol to go, so he sat down amoungst the couples eating dinner and slammed two st. petes. could've gotten drunker for cheaper over at the trusty ol 7-11. idiot.

Monday, March 9, 2009

I was wrong. Actually Pat was wrong. American Cheeseburger isn't until May 7th. whatever.

I might get to ride in Mark and T-mo's vanbulance in April all the way to Chicago for Midwest fest!

Jacob and I are planning Krymnal's stoner treat feast tonight. Ice cream rolled in oreos covered in chocolate in between waffles with chocolate spiders... or something. All are welcome!

my compost pile is started and I gathered a whole milk crate full of veggie scraps and coffee from work today.
I am going to grow broccoli, spinach, cabbage, onions, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini, and carrots and lots more.
Becca has ordered her bee keeping supplies.
we now have a fire ring thanks to Matt.
We will have the most enchanting backyard ever.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

I also played sorry with matt, jacob, and ryan until like 2 am. who does that?

more game nights!
"There's nothing like a lady with a buzz saw, I just might build your house or I just might tear it down.."

NPR said St. Louis was the second most depressing city in the United States. That's amazing. And that news made my Monday for sure!

I haven't yet decided if I'm gonna stay in town for Rose's half and Luc's 21st at Off Broadway with KKM rap show or go to KC to see Teenage Bottlerocket with The Queers.

American Cheeseburger is playing here again this Saturday!

it's 7;30 and I've already driven 35 miles today! what a feat!

We are going to see the long eared owls and snowy owls in Breckinridge and Silex.

Tonight is the Acid reflux show and word just got out that Smart Cops will be playing here soon.

Wow wee wow wow wow

This week is looking like it'll be a jolly good time.

Saturday and Sunday were my wildlife rehabilitation course. It was really fun and I learned so much. And I even had time to write Jim a 6 page letter during lunch on Saturday. (side note: I miss that guy so much and wish I had the guts to up and go to Ireland) Sunday we did labs and worked with euthanized owls, hawks, squirrels, rabbits, pigeons, and neonates to do gavaging, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, and overall exams. It was really cool. Then was the test and hopefully I passed. I finished my test early enough to make it to yoga and then went and hung out with the lovely Jessica for the rest of the night. Yesterday we went up to Lemmons where they played both sixteen candles and pretty in pink.

So tonight is margarita night at my mom's. Tomorrow I am at wild bird on my own for a few hours and then later in the evening Ann Rerun and I might be going to a free seminar on growing heirloom tomatoes and peppers in Missouri. After that is the Robert Blake show at City Art Supply with May Day Orchestra who I have yet to see but The Shadow said were good. I trust his fine judgement.

Then Thursday it looks like my mom got off work so we'll be making a trek to Silex to see the long eared owls. Thursday night is the Acid Reflux show at the Glass Pit with Suburban Smash and Godfodder.

By Friday Ima need a rest big time. A good solid week of awesome weather and activities.

I'm also very envious of my sister who is going to England, Paris, and Scotland for a few weeks this summer with her boyfriend.
I mean, I'm gonna be sweating and sleeping in the woods, I guess that's better.

Friday, February 20, 2009

I have been re-learning math. I understand more than I thought I did. Good thing since I have to calculate drug dosages and calcium and phosphorus percentages. Been studying like a fiend. Yesterday I went to Wild Bird to study with Di for about four hours. I need to re-do my homework tonight and then tomorrow I start my weekend course. It sounds pathetic but I need at least a C on the test to pass and get my certification. Viel Gluck to me.

I might go with Ryan to see a Holga exhibit in the loop tonight. But I really just want to go to yoga and then go home to finish my Barbara Kingsolver novel.

Also, we decided on a section of the Ozark Trail to hike. It is roughly 80-100 miles round trip. We are gonna take about five days of hiking to do it. Going through bluffs, mountain, and river. This is all very exciting.

I am starting to sprout vegetables for my garden. I acquired some mystery peppers as of Wednesday.

I think my mom is going to see more long eared owls this weekend. Perfect, right when I have time off, I also have to use my time off for other things.
But I might be dissecting an owl, so that's close right?

SNL has done it again. Another amazing digital short

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7yfISlGLNU

and it has also given me a new found appreciation for this guy

haha T Payne.

The rap show went really well and was tons of fun. We have two more in march. One is for Awesome Party Fest, the other for Rose's half birthday at Off Broadway.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

The wild bird rehabilitation seminar I signed up for has not yet delivered my materials. I need to study because it's been ages since I've taken a test and really needed to pass. If I do then I am on my way to being a real grown up with a career and everything. wow!

FBC ride was last night. The weather has been perfect. 70+ degrees today!

I vow to not think about how angry I get when people romanticize poverty and take advantage of other people's circumstance when it means squalor. I have spent too much time this week thinking on it.

the critters age coming out!

Raw Days

So Maddie and Jason and a few of their friends decided to eat raw food only 3 days each week. At first I was thinking that it was too much work. Plus, food is supposed to be enjoyable and most people that start raw food diets dread it. Not for me I was thinking. Then Maddie was talking about how great she felt and how she lost six pounds this week and I reconsidered and decided that I would start with one day a week. Sunday. It will be the day I can cleanse my body. So yesterday was day one and now I'm craving a huge salad. It wasn't hard except when I forgot to eat lunch and got cranky and when I couldn't eat my avocado because it was not ripe yet. I started my day today with granola with banana and berries and I feel a bit heavy from it. I think this is a good thing. I will learn to appreciate vegetables and fruit as they are. Its definitely not a lifestyle change, I mean I am still learning so much just about vegan cooking and nutrition and raw food preparation is on a whole new level. But I feel good about my one day a week raw diet.

In other news, we found out today that people in Arizona saw a clip of hardcore porn cut into the superbowl game last night. haha kids were watching.
suck it sports fans

I made some vegan lemon meringue cupcakes for work. Complete with lemon filling and a sugared lemon rind twisted on top. Sorry I don't have pictures.

Saturday, January 31, 2009

went to art opening with ryan last night - Locusts and Honey. 1700 Malaysian? cicadas and many grasshoppers and leaf bugs all pinned to the walls looking like quilts. It was amazing. We went to Schlafly Bottleworks afterward and it was pretty good.

http://www.art-patrol.com/?p=928

although what she was exhibiting mostly were cicadas, and locusts are different than cicadas. That annoyed me a bit. oh well. it was awesome

on a side note...

I baked a vegan cheesecake with cranberries, sucanat, and pecans on top. I brought it to my parents so I wouldn't eat it all.

My sister cut my hair and now I feel like my hair has split personalities. One side can get me a date with a frat boy, the other side is for picking up truckers at rest stops or a crusty at the next melodic hardcore show. It's as they say in the cosmetology world "edgy". sweet dude.

I am reading Eddy L. Harris's memoir Mississippi Solo.
We played in the snow on Tuesday and it was awesome. The city is still like a war zone which is pretty great. I love seeing people hike down Gravois, walking through the street with a shovel in hand. We went to taco Tuesday at the deacon and when we left Jacob body slammed me on the sidewalk then proceeded to drag me into the middle of Chippewa. I have never been in the middle of Chippewa for more time than it takes to cross the street. That's how dead the city was. We went to Tower Grove and played inside a tree and ran across the pond and put on a musical when I was once again tackled and chipped a bit off my front tooth. We then went to Forest Park and met up with some folks. The sledding on art hill was fantastic. A giant party. Every hoosier for miles collected there to stand around trash can fires, drinking beer and acting like maniacs. Oh st. Louis, my love for you grows ever stronger.
We h d rap practice yesterday. On Valentines day we're having a birthday party for Valentine at the DeTonty house and a live KKM rap show. It will be amazing.

If anyone knows of any good cross Missouri hiking trails let me know. I am trying to decide on a route for my backpacking trip this summer. Maybe St. Louis to Kansas City? who knows. It's going to be great though.

Its blizzarding

Snow Snow Snow!

I hope to play in it later.

I have been thinking about this thing for a few days. There are a lot of soap boxes that I tend to stand on but this is one I will not back down from. The molestation of children is an issue to be taken seriously and it is terribly disgusting to ignore, make light of, or all out exploit this issue. Now a lot of statistics are bullshit and that's a fact but 1 in 4 little girls are sexually abused by a man they know and often times trust. I think people tend to push this fact from their minds or maybe they don't know it to begin with. And there is a major issue in this culture with neglecting to hear what children say as truth.

one more thing. NPR was going on and on about how graduates of business schools are having a hell of a time finding work. I say good. Go learn a useful skill. Learn to help people and animals and nature. Anyone who goes to school for business is obviously very selfish. Going to school to learn to advance their own situation and theirs alone. I hope your family regrets spending money on your crap education.

the end.

A busy weekend ahead. Tonight Jake and I might go see the Militant Bingo Propaganda Machine, put on by the Non Prophet Theatre Co. Tomorrow Patty Bo Bo's new band is playing at the Iron Barley and Sunday is not only the classic bike show and swap meet but yoga classes starting at work and Social Circkle. The events to unfold may blow my mind. so watch out.

I'm currently seated directly above Jacob's new band, who are jamming for maybe the first time. I just want to watch Planet Earth but that probably won't happen unless I can scrounge up some headphones.

I had an orange and a lara bar for after yoga tonight, but ended up sharing half my orange. I am hungry. boo hoo.

My fortune cookie said that "a pleasant surprise awaits you". where's my damn surprise?

Thursday, January 22, 2009

today was beautiful. I walked to the library. we shot a bb gun off my roof, went to crown candy (yum chocolate covered oreos), and then i rode my bike. damn February. we should just skip it.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

new dude

my work closed down for about forty five minutes today. We shuffled across the street, to the grocery, popped open some beer and watched the inauguration on a t.v. my boss brought in. It was pretty silly. At first I was happy for all the minorities because this, I thought, was at least an advancement for them. It was a "hopeful" time for anyone ever discriminated against, even though I damn well know it's all the same. But after today, more than ever, I realize that all these white folks elected a black man to save them, because the dude before him did a shit job, and now they're desperate.

also a woman came to my work and asked if our bacon was humanely raised before slaughter. i wanted to sock her one. that is impossible. It is impossible to raise a creature into adulthood only intending to murder it for your own benefit.

grrr

winter is crazy

These last few day have been nuts. I mean exhausting. I mean really exciting? Nope. I baked a bunch more carrot cake cupcakes at work and I think that by the time i baked up a batch of blueberry with blueberry cream cheese frosting I had 3 of the fore mentioned cupcakes passed onto me and I might have eaten all 3. Can't quite remember. So I cut the shit out of my thumb at work on Tuesday, blood everywhere. I was promising my boss that I had been tested and was clean as my blood got all over his hands while trying to bandage me. Real classy Molly. so I went out and spent like 25 bucks buying some freaking iodine and bandages and whatnot and went home to clean it but had no water. So I fed my cats in a fit of rage and headed over to Ryan's to clean it. We were watching tears of the black tiger (which has some amazing deaths and beautiful colors) when I found out how I could once again have running water. Sped over and paid it, my night went on with red dwarf and woody Allen. So then yesterday i got really freaked out about infection and persuaded Ryan to drive me to the urgent care place where they turned me away. We proceeded on to Barnes. We got to the ER and both of us had knives on us so we had to g back out to the car and put them away to get through security. Came back and they confiscated my mace. Then we waited in the ER for probably 3 1/2 hours for me to find out that I didn't need stitches, just a tetanus shot. Ryan is very nice to have waited there with me. Then we didn't have enough money to pay for parking so we just gave the lady what we had.

Later there were bike races at the cowboy which were really fun.

man am I tired now.
Dios Mio and the Sinks at the black lodge tonight.

Updated new Year

New Year's Eve was a blast. I didn't really feel like going out considering the fact that I was fighting off illness trying to invade my body, but I'm glad I did. Patrick came over and we dashed over to off Broadway as the Madonna cover band was playing. Took 5 minutes to get from the door to the bar and another 10 before we found our friends. Madonna cover band was okay, but the Monads doing a whole DEVO cover set... AMAZING. They did mongoloid and gates of steel and ended with whip it which was disappointing but still extraordinary fun! some jerk with a girlfriend was all over me, 3 times, and I was a little unnerved, oh well. Then a Huey Lewis and the News cover band played, not ass exciting. Midnight came, champagne flew, got made out with by surprise (yick) and then Beth posed the question "How many people contracted herpes in the new year?" and I freaked. We left that joint and headed to the Deacon to see Jacob. Two more creepers there then we went to Courtesy where a skinhead hit on me. God what luck. I dropped my blasted friends off and headed home, getting in no later than 3am.
And today I became my own worst enemy in terms of huge Hippocratic dumb asses and bought a new (used) car. Tired of mine blowing smoke from the hood into my lungs and the earth.
